2018 Roanoke Symphony Summer Music Institute, PC: Michelle Smith-Johnston

Alex has experience teaching private and group lessons, coaching sectionals, conducting, and leading masterclasses. He has taught and worked with the Virginia Tech String Project, the Jefferson Center in Roanoke, VA, the Heifetz International Music Institute, the NEC Preparatory School, and Palaver Strings.

As a cello teacher, Alex believes that a solid technique and a sound knowledge of kinesthetics are the keys to developing a healthy tone and ear. Some opening questions for his new students include “What are you looking to get out of the cello?” and “What kind of music do you enjoy?” His approach to each student is unique and includes a balanced musical diet of standard cello repertoire mixed with arrangements and transcriptions individually made to engage every student’s own passions.

Lessons are available in person in the Boston area and on Zoom. Alex is currently accepting students of all ages and skill levels. Email alexfowlercellist@gmail.com today to schedule!
