Musical Storytelling

Alex has always been passionate for the stories that can be told through music.

As a Musical Storytelling Fellow at NEC (2017-2020), Alex has performed throughout the Boston Public School system, as well as the Boston Public Market and the Boston Children’s Museum. His programs pair spoken stories, both from published material and original ones, with classical cello works and improvisation.

Alex loves to incorporate audience interaction into his performances, including dancing, clapping, and singing original songs, including the ever-popular “The Gorilla Song”.

Watch the video below to see just what musical storytelling is and what Alex, together with his pal, Charlie the Chimpanzee, can bring to your classroom or students!

Musical Charades

The cello can make all different types of sounds, including ones normally made by animals! Musical Charades is an interactive game where Alex makes different animal noises on the cello and kids guess which animal Alex is thinking of. Live performances also allow for kids to suggest their favorite animals and have Alex improvising animal noises on the spot!
